The epigenome is a responsive interface between our changing environment and the static genome, and epigenetic mechanisms and marks have a profound influence on human health and disease. In a recent issue of Nature, Lister et al. take a monumental step toward understanding the human epigenome by providing complete maps of DNA methylation in two human cell types, and by integrating these maps with RNA transcript sequences and expression levels.
